Beings Helping Beings

Doing what we can to help.

There are many ways to adopt a pet in need of a loving home. There are a few things however that are important to keep in mind when contemplating adopting an animal.

  • Do I have the time to truly care for this animal? Many of the pets found in pounds and rescue facilities have had hard lives starved of human affection, if you are going to take one home make sure you are truly able to give your new friend the love and full attention he or she deserves.
  • Do I have enough space? Again many of these animas have had hard lives and would like nothing more than to have a permanent place in your home, if there is any chance you wont be able to keep a pet where you live or may move somewhere that prohibits pets, you may want to reconsider. Many pets never recover from the scars of being repeatedly rejected.
  • Do I have the money for this? Many 1st time adopters see an animal they are "in love with" or "must have" and adopt without thinking about the financial burden they are undertaking. A pet is just like a child, they take love, and time but they also take money. In today's world food isn't cheap and veterinary bills, vaccinations and daily upkeep of an animal can become very costly. So before you take that friend home check your finances, and be sure that when you bring your new family member home, you will be together for a long very happy time.
  • Do I actually want a pet? Many people see ads on TV or the photos of the little puppy or kitten pressing their noses against the cage bars "waiting for a loving family" and the tug on their heartstrings is just too much. It is a wonderful act to adopt a pet in need, and the least thing you want to do is regret it. Make sure this is really what you want, that it's really what your family wants and most of all that it's a decision that will dwell among those deemed "the best of your life".
